Tariq Ali is a writer and filmmaker. Exiled from Pakistan in the 1960s for his activism against the military dictatorship, Ali has gained a reputation as one of todayâ€™s most forceful political thinkers, speaking out consistently against imperialism, religious fundamentalism and the Anglo-American â€œwar on terror.â€ He has written more than 20 books on world history and politics, including Pirates of the Caribbean; Bush in Babylon; The Clash of Fundamentalisms and his latest, The Obama Syndromeâ€”Surrender at Home, War Abroad. He has also authored five novels in his Islam Quintet series and writes scripts for the stage and screen.
